'Hap and Leonard' centers on friends Hap Collins, a white working-class ex-con played by James Purefoy, and Leonard Pine, an openly gay, black Vietnam vet with anger issues played by Michael Kenneth Williams. Together, the duo fight to stay on the right side of the law in 1980s East Texas.

Hap and Leonard is a period drama set in 1988 that follows 2 men's struggle to get by in Texas. These two men are vastly different but best friends that will do anything for one another. The cast is filled with fantastic actors and the story is quite interesting. This show is a nice release by Sundance.

This is a show about contrasts. The two main characters epitomize these contrasts:
Black and white, a Viet Nam vet and a conscientious objector, a man who acts first and a man who thinks of possibilities, an openly gay man and a man who loves a woman, a man who has turned inward and a man who is open to the world.
We are now into season 2 and the show still has great writing, great acting and relevance in today's world.
I highly recommend it as I highly recommend the Joe R Lonsdale novels of the same name.

Good adaptation of the book series.they got the relationship between Hap and Leonard right. The only issue with the first season was that the six episode run felt really compressed and a bit short changed;really that is just a minor quibble on my part.
